On the 13th of October, the 6-8 leaning community went on an excursion to Kryal Castle for our medieval HHaSS project. We looked at; peasant, nobility, knights, arms and armour, archery, medicines, medieval life etc. we learnt how there was the feudal system and how the church and royals would switch positions in the feudal system, for example; kings and queens, the nobles, the knights and the peasants. A host named Lucas showed us the arms and armour and told us that it would roughly weigh around 25-26kg and the knights had to wear that amour every day. We learnt that knights had a page and that page was like a servant to the knight which means that they would basically do everything for the knights, one the knight thought that his page was well behaved and followed the knights orders he would be ranked up to a squire, a squire still would do the jobs of a page but the knight will now train his squire to become an knight.
We learnt how the medicines were used in the medieval ear and what they would help with, the host Sir Mathew told us about the Black Death and how it was spread around the medieval ages. He said it was spread by fleas, from the animals that would live with the people that had them in their houses. They had found that onions would prevent people that lived on onion farms to catch the Black Death and that is because onions would absorb the virus before it could reach the people on the farms.
Overall the day was fun we learnt a lot about the medieval era and how life was.
